Sorry, late post from me tonight, bedtime was 😬 tonight!! I wanted to tell you about this little gem that we found last week, it’s only 15mins down the road from us (about 25mins south of Ubud Centre) called @sa.playground
A great little hang out for families, it has a bucking bull, Jumping castle, trampoline, rock climbing wall, toddler play area and swimming pool. (I will share more photos in my stories and Bali highlights reel)
And an added bonus, it has an airconditioned room upstairs set up with mattresses & pillows in case little ones need a nap.

It also has an onsite cafe and WiFi.
Prices are super reasonable:
50,000 (approx. $5AUD) per child for a hour play⠀
75,000 (approx. $8AUD) per child for two hours play
100,000 (approx. $11AUD) per child for all day play

For a family of 4 lunch (including drinks & icecream) cost us about 150,000 (approx. $16.50AUD)

So with Galungan (Balinese holiday) and a couple of teacher training days this week our kids have the whole week off school... so, a few families have decided to run away together to the Gili Islands! I’m so excited to be ticking this badboy off my wish list! More photos on stories (and in my Bali highlight reel)

7-8years ago Missy Moo and I lived in a quiet part of Sydney. We lead a simple balanced life back then. Most mornings would start with a walk to our favourite café then off to the park before we ran errands or went to one of Missy Moo’s activities… Life was easy.
Today, reminded me of those days. The kids are starting their 3rd week of school, Steve’s off at a Myofacial yoga class and Miss E and I have just finished our morning walk to see the monkeys and now enjoying an ice coffee and mango & strawberry lassie at a new favourite café near our villa. It’s the first time in a long time that life hasn’t felt so rushed and hectic.
Our life in Bali is very much like a jigsaw puzzle and with time, research and a bit of trial and error we are slowly finding the right pieces to put it all together.
After a few failed attempts we have finally found a villa and more importantly a neighbourhood that works for us. And for the first time since being in Bali I feel like I can truly exhale. Amongst the crazy hustle and bustle we found a neighbourhood where we can walk to places, yoga, Pilates, cafes, Warung (local restaurants), etc. Being able to walk with a pram and not be reliant on a car or scooter is truly liberating! Ahhh, the simple things in life.
As for the other pieces of the puzzle:

Schooling - we are still working through it. There are a few things to consider when sending your kids to school in Bali namely, cost (it can be pretty pricey), limited options for short term schooling (as in a month or one term) and also that Bali starts their school year in July. So right now, they just returned to Term 3 (Missy Moo would be starting Class 4 this year if she was in still Australia but here she has entered into Term 3 of Class 4 – so 6mths behind fellow students). The other thing to work through for us is that there is no true Steiner school near us. There are a lot of nature based, humanistic, Steiner inspired or alternative schools around with a main stream component in them but finding the right one that works for our children is taking a bit longer to find. Nevertheless, I am investigating 3 avenues this week.

Boys are off doing food shopping so us girls are hanging at the pool (Miss M has squad tonight). Love the @titi_batu club, pool, coffee, yummy food & awesome after school classes! Ohhh and happy #AustraliaDay guys!

Not quite was you normally see on the #Bali hashtag is it?
Bali Belly, Travellers Diarrhoea, Delhi belly, Montezuma's revenge, GI trots… Gastroenteritis, whatever you want to call it. This bad boy has knocked me for a 6 and has completely taken me out for the week. What started out as feeling a little off, ended with me curled up on the bathroom floor in a foetal position wishing someone would kill me.

The infamous Bali Belly, another name for traveller’s diarrhoea is caused by consuming contaminated food or water. Bali Belly is usually caused by bacteria, but in my case by a parasite. Yep, you read right. At this moment whilst writing this I have parasites in my body that have caused an infection and inflammation in my intestines. Nice work guys, you can now vacate my body!
Anyway, I thought as we are here in Bali sharing our journey, as gross at this is. I might share my experience in case you are ever in this situation, you can know what to expect, do or even pay. The whole (Bacterial) Bali belly is kind’a common. I think I read somewhere 30-50% of Aussie tourists will at some point experience Bali Belly.
We were mindful trying to avoid it, drinking bottled water, good hand hygiene, probiotics, hand sanitiser, etc, but the sneaky buggers still got me.
For me it started with feeling off, nausea and not wanting to eat. Then came the diarrhoea. After that, horrendous stomach cramps that had you begging for mercy, followed by vomiting and then when you think it can’t get any worse the vomiting and diarrhoea decide they want to mess with you and come at the same time. I ended up finding comfort on the cold bathroom floor with a towel as a pillow in between bouts. Fevers, headaches and blurred vision follow after that.

When the ambulance came I was pretty dehydrated, and blood pressure was quite low. They found it hard to get a canula in to get a blood sample and give me an IV. Once in though, I was given fluids, electrolytes, banana bags, pain killers, antibiotic, anti nausea etc whilst they waited for test results.
