When Mothers Groups don’t work out

So recently I read a blog by the beautiful Amy from This Mum Likes titled “10 Reasons I Love Mothers’ Group”and it got me thinking about what happens to those of us who don’t click with the group we are given? What if we don’t feel like these women are our sister wives or our mama village, then what?

I feel there are milestones in our lives as mothers just as there are in a child. Children learn to crawl, then walk, then run. Without one it makes it difficult to move on to the next stage. I realise now it’s much the same with motherhood. If you don’t click and build that village in the early days of motherhood it makes the next few milestones hard, lonely and isolating.

motherless mothers day

A Motherless Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is such a bitter sweet day for me. As it draws near I feel myself getting a bit anxious and my heart getting a bit heavier. I know I won’t be able to share any new ‘mum and me’ photos on social media and when Sunday comes around and I see photos of friends with their arms draped around their mum’s neck as they pose for a photo I am sure I will feel a ping of envy.

I long for those photos, the new mum and me photos taken over a Mother’s day brunch or lunch, or the generation shot of my mum, kids and I but there will be no photos or moments captured and I imagine it will hurt just the same as it did last year.  Continue reading →

It’s all about the Journey

When I started writing today I was going to tell you a story about how my blog came to be. How over the months that it took me to create the blog, and now the couple of months its been ‘live’, I found parts of myself I had lost somewhere in the journey of motherhood & wife-hood. Parts that have laid dormant for way too long. Instead, I find myself drawn to taking down my brave face for a minute and sharing part of my journey about how life’s continual curve balls have impacted my little family. How slowly losing your village as a mum can be soul crushing. Continue reading →

20 tips for holidaying in bali

20 Bali Tips

In my previous Bali blogs I covered off on different parts of Bali to live and schooling. I also discussed visas, passports, vaccinations and where to stay. I know I haven’t covered off on flights or travel insurance yet (this is mainly because I have been sharing the journey as I do it and as I haven’t booked flights I haven’t written about it yet). Today I thought I would share with you 20 things I have learnt about Bali since planning for the move that I have found very interesting and helpful. I hope you get something out of it too.  Continue reading →

paradise resort review

They don’t call it Paradise Resort for nothing

So recently we did a last minute get away for my birthday. I posted a photo on Facebook and asked our followers to guess where in Australia we were. Listing some clues about the place , I hinted there was a resort which had a water park; a kids club; an ice skating rink; rock climbing; an adults zone and most importantly… cocktails!

For the those of you who guessed, if you guessed Paradise Resort, Gold Coast you are right!

I had heard some mixed reviews about this place including: “it’s heaven for kids but not adults”, “some of the rooms are dated and definitely need a face lift”, “it’s really noisy” and so on. Even with the mixed reviews, it was still on my ‘to visit’ list, so I bit the bullet and booked it.

I am so very glad I did.

Moving to Bali – Reconnaissance Trip

Moving to Bali? Things to know when planning a Bali reconnaissance trip. We cover what you need to know about passports, vaccinations, visas and of course where to stay…

After our initial planning we decided the next step for us was to do a reconnaissance trip. I had some preconceived ideas about Bali, some positive and some negative and I felt I was unable to commit to the move without doing a ‘test run’. So I started planning a 2.5 week recon trip to visit 3 potential areas we could move to (Seminyak, Sanur and Ubud).

Whether you are going to Bali to live or to visit there are 3 things you might want to consider before even thinking about booking accommodation or jumping on the plane. Continue reading →

Moving to Bali – Initial Planning

Moving house has never fazed me and neither has moving interstate. So when the opportunity came up to move to Bali I was mindful to see if that would be pushing any of my boundaries. We are still in the planning stage and there is a lot to learn and consider, but it’s hasn’t seemed to faze me in the least. There is a lot of research and note taking going on so I thought I’d to share with you my thoughts and findings for two reasons:

  • If I document everything now whilst it’s still fresh I can one day refer back to it if need be
  • It might help you if you ever decided to move to Bali

last minute getaway for your birthday

The Dreaded Birthday

Does anyone else think that birthdays are overrated?

I’ve been thinking, trying to remember at what point in my life birthdays changed from being one of the best days of the year to one of the worst.

Today, like any other birthday (at least for a while now) started abruptly and I knew within the first 10 minutes it was going to be like any other birthday. Woken before 7am with the demands of my 3 year old “where is this?”, “I can’t find that”, “I am hungry” , “mum, mum, mum…”

And so the dreaded day started. The morning continues with a whirlwind of noise and mess and by 9am I am sitting at the dining room table, looking around at a house that looks like a tornado has just whirled through it and I think to myself  “I just cant do this…”  Continue reading →

world schooling, what is worldschooling

What in the world is… World-schooling?

How many types of schooling do you know of?

It’s an unusual and humbling feeling when you realise how much you really just don’t know. When I was pregnant with my first child, my husband and I spoke about schooling and day care. Back then we were in Sydney and there were 18 month waiting lists to get in the 0-2 yr old baby rooms in the daycare centres. In case you were wondering, yes some people actually had their children’s names down before they conceived! Continue reading →
