7 Things to do with kids in the July School Holidays (Week 1) – Byron Bay Region

So, today marks the first day of the July school holidays. For many it’s a two week break but for us Steiner families this winter holiday break is a full 3 weeks. As a sleep deprived mama of 3, winging it won’t work anymore which means I have been researching school holiday programs and activities and making a game plan for our little family. I thought I would share my top find along the way.

Here are  7 things to do with the kids in Week 1 of the Winter School Holidays (Monday 9th – Sunday 15th July) in and around Byron Bay

1. Children’s African Drum and Dance Workshop presented by Gabriel Otu (9th & 11th July) @Byron Theatre

I personally love this, Gabriel is so fun and vibrant and really displays his passion for African dance. He has all the instruments to give all the feels of being in Africa itself. Suitable for kids from as little at 2 years old, there is a bit of fun for everyone. Not to mention burning some of those energy beans.

2.Wolfgang @HOTA (12th July)

If you and your kids love a bit of musical mayhem, then Wolfgang is a must see. Combining the beauty of Mozart music with a bit of circus fun and acrobatics. Designed to wow audiences from as young as 3, this is one show that you won’t be looking at your watch every 30 seconds.

3.The Biggest Little Magicians @ Bruns Picture House (12th July)

This is another must see these school holidays. Local siblings, Yuvisun, Bob and Diamond wow audiences with their amazing magic show. Sure to be a big hit in the magician world in the coming years, you can see them in their first ever official show right here in Bruns. Full of drama, humour and fun, kids of all ages will love seeing “their own” perform some of the worlds best magic tricks.

4.Peter Pan Jr Show-.Musical Theatre Production @Circus Arts Byron Bay (13th, 14th, 20th, 21st July)

Do your kids love Peter Pan? What am I saying, who doesn’t love a good Pan adventure. These school holidays, Circus Arts are putting on a full ensemble Peter Pan Jnr musical featuring a cast ranging from 6-16 in ages. Filled with song, dance and of course flying, this musical is sure to be a hit with kids and adults alike.

5.Alice in Wonderland @HOTA (15th July)

So now you’re in the musical groove, why not take the kids to party with the Mad Hatter in Wonderland. Alice in Wonderland comes to life in this fun filled adaptation of the Lewis Carroll classic. You wont be disappointed with masterful sets, lavish costumes and the latest technology in animatronic puppets. A must for all ages.

6.Johnny The Jester: Wild & Crazy Magic Show @Byron Theatre (18th July)

It’s magic all round in Byron these school holidays and Johhny The Jester won’t disappoint. One of Australia’s leading children’s entertainers, Johnny and his trusted sidekick Stewart will have kids of all ages entertained and laughing with joy. After the show, the kids get to meet and pat Stewart the Rabbit as well as receive a free animal balloon!

As always there are a few purpose made kids movies strategically released in time for school holidays, this school holidays 3 kids movies have been released:
1.Incredibles 2 (PG)
2. Hotel Transylvania 3 (PG)
3. Show Dogs (PG)
